No action on Dalal Street today—but that doesn't mean there's nothing to track.
The Indian stock markets are shut on May 1 for Maharashtra Day, with trading across equities, F&O and currency segments on pause. But come Friday, expect a packed session as investors react to a wave of earnings and data.
Here's what's worth keeping on your radar before the market reopens.
Q4 earnings to keep an eye on
While the bourses are closed, corporate India isn't taking the day off. Several major companies are set to report results today and their numbers will likely shape early moves on Friday:
- Adani Ports
- Adani Enterprises
- Zomato (now rebranded as Eternal)
- RailTel
- 5paisa Capital
The Street will be looking at Zomato's commentary on Blinkit, profitability metrics and demand trends. For the Adani twins, debt, infra growth, and margin stability will be under the scanner.
Auto sales data: A monthly pulse check
Another number investors will track closely is April auto sales. Expect reports to start trickling in later today, covering two-wheelers, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles.
This is one of the first indicators of demand sentiment for the new financial year. Any surprises, positive or negative, could spill over into stocks like Maruti, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp when markets reopen.
What to expect on May 2
With global markets open today, external cues will also weigh in. If US markets swing on tech earnings or macro data, or crude oil makes a big move, Indian indices will likely follow suit on Friday.
Add in stock-specific earnings reactions, and the first trading day of May could be anything but quiet.
