Cutting Through Clutter

Here's the ideal tool to track fund performance and effect comparisons

How can I regularly track the performance of my funds and compare them with a few of their peers? Try out the My Watchlist tool available on ValueResearchOnline.com. It is the ideal tool to help you cut right through all the clutter and zero in on the schemes most relevant to you.

We, at Value Research, rate funds according to their performance and the risk they undertook to achieve those numbers. The rating extends from 3- to 5-stars, the latter being the best. But these ratings keep changing. While you can use the star rating as a guide when buying funds, it is not advisable to ignore your portfolio and sit tight once that’s done.

Hence we have come up with a My Watchlist tool that will enable you to follow your selected funds. Let’s say you have invested in an infrastructure fund, a mid-cap fund and a large-cap fund. You can select all these three. But to get a fair idea on how your investment is doing vis-à-vis the competition, you should also select a few other mid-cap, large-cap or infrastructure funds. So even if you finally narrow down your selected list to 12 schemes (a maximum of 18 is permitted), you have eliminated the entire universe of funds to get a quick update on your chosen few.

Here’s how to access the tool:

•    Log on. If you are not a member, become one. It will only take a minute.

•    Once you get onto the tool, on the left-hand side, all the names of the schemes will appear.

•    Move your cursor on the schemes you wish to track and click ‘Add’. On the right-hand side, your customised list will appear.

•    If you wish to take out any schemes from your list, move your cursor to that scheme and click ‘Remove’.

•    Finalise your list by clicking on ‘Save’.

Now whenever you come to the website, the My Watchlist tool will show you just your select funds with information on the star rating and latest net asset value (NAV). You also have the option of checking out the returns over 9 time frames, ranging from 1 day to 5 years.

If you wish to change the list or make an addition or deletion, that too is possible. This list is not written in stone. There is a link called ‘Edit Watchlist’ which can be accessed anytime. So go ahead, keeping track of your investment is really easy.
