You can directly get in touch with the mutual fund. Mutual funds allow investors to "switch" from a regular plan to a direct plan. A switch is a redemption in one plan and purchase in another. So, you should check whether there is any exit load applicable on the transaction. You should also take into account how returns would be taxed before taking a final call.
