The two most-tracked institutional investors are mutual funds (MFs) and foreign institutional investors (FIIs). Institutions are considered to be more cautious and inform investors in the stock market arena and are followed by business media and analysts. But we checked how successful both were in 2013 and got two very contrasting performances. While mutual funds got it right in six out of 10 companies, FIIs fared rather poorly with just one company among their top holdings giving away positive returns.

Following are the top-10 ten companies from the BSE200 where the MFs' holding was the most in the beginning of the year 2013 and respective return during the same calendar year. Six companies gave a positive return out of 10.
