Large-cap equity funds invest primarily in India’s 100 largest companies by market capitalisation, providing investors with exposure to well-established businesses with resilient balance sheets. They do not swing as sharply as mid- or small-cap stocks, yet over long stretches, the best managers can still compound wealth handsomely, especially through direct plans, where lower expenses lift net returns.

Below is a snapshot of the large-cap schemes that have generated the strongest ten-year growth in their direct-plan growth options. Performance is annualised and expressed as compound annual growth rates (CAGR). Data is as of 24 June 2025.

Rank Scheme Ten-year CAGR Five-year CAGR Three-year CAGR
1 Nippon India Large Cap 15.36 per cent 27.4 per cent 26.5 per cent
2 Canara Robeco Large Cap 15.28 per cent 22.1 per cent 21.8 per cent
3 ICICI Prudential Large Cap 15.2 per cent 24.5 per cent 23.7 per cent
4 Invesco India Largecap 14.63 per cent 23.3 per cent 23.8 per cent
5 Mirae Asset Large Cap 14.41 per cent 20.7 per cent 18.3 per cent
6 Kotak Bluechip 14.24 per cent 22.8 per cent 21.4 per cent
7 Edelweiss Large Cap 13.93 per cent 22.8 per cent 22.6 per cent
8 Baroda BNP Paribas Large Cap 13.93 per cent 22.1 per cent 22.3 per cent

Why it matters

  • A mid-teens ten-year CAGR from large caps is well ahead of the category average and comes with milder volatility than mid or small caps.
  • Direct plans add between half and one percentage point of extra return every year by stripping out distributor commissions, which compounds meaningfully over a decade.
  • Even the steadiest blue-chip fund will fluctuate with the market. Stay invested for at least five years, spread money across a few proven managers, and align allocations with your risk tolerance.

Large-cap funds remain the anchoring equity allocation for many long-term portfolios. Choosing one or more of the above leaders—and holding tight through full market cycles—can help investors grow wealth with a smoother ride than racier categories.
