Global markets were buoyant the past week (September 23-30). The biggest gainer was China's Hang Seng Index that rallied 16 per cent on government stimulus announcements.

During the week, the Nifty50 crossed the 26,000 mark for the first time ever, but ended off the peak by September 30. The BSE Midcap index remained unchanged, while the BSE Sensex and BSE Smallcap closed 0.8 and 0.1 per cent lower, respectively. Due to positive news from China, the BSE Metal index was the top sectoral performer with an 8 per cent weekly gain.
