Since 2008, I have been investing Rs 2,000 every month through SIPs in HDFC Top 200, BSL Frontline Equity, DSPBR Equity, HDFC Prudence and IDFC Premier Equity. I am two years away from my goal of saving for my son’s education. Please review my investment.

You have a portfolio of five very good funds that are highly rated. Collectively you have an equity exposure off 88 per cent with a large-cap-blend orientation. The portfolio is well diversified amongst 140 stocks with the top three sectors (Financial Services, FMCG, Energy) accounting for 37.5 per cent of the allocation and the top five stocks accounting for 15 per cent.
You say that you are two year’s away from your goal. That is not long where equity investments are concerned. We suggest that you continue with the SIPs for just another year. When you are 12 months away from your goal, begin to gradually shift your investments from equity to debt. You could try a liquid fund or even a bank deposit.
