I am planning to invest Rs 5 lakh over the next few months towards my retirement. Is there any upper limit to the investment that I can have in a particular AMC? I already have investments in HDFC AMC worth Rs 2.5 lakh through HDFC Top 200 and HDFC Equity. Which funds and how should I invest this sum?

There is no limit on your investments in a fund from a specific AMC as long as the portfolio of funds that you have selected are well diversified and are performing well achieving your financial goal. The two funds from HDFC that you have are good and have a performance history and track record to find way in any portfolio.
We recommend regular investments through SIPs over lump sum investments. You should park the sum you plan to invest in a liquid fund and initiate systematic transfers into a large cap fund such as Franklin India Bluechip or DSPBR Top 100 Equity; both are large-cap funds which are missing from your current portfolio to get stability and complete a well-diversified portfolio.
