Investing in balanced funds that have a debt-tilt at this stage

I am 54 and am currently looking to invest around Rs 2-3 lakh in mutual funds. I am looking at investing Rs 50,000 across 3-4 funds. I understand that diversified equity funds would fetch good returns. I am willing to take moderate risk with the horizon of 3 years when I retire. This will be my first mutual fund investment, I am looking at this investment to help me create a corpus in my retirement.

At 54, you are very late an entrant into investing in mutual funds. However, as you have indicated your willingness to invest in mutual funds with a 3-year time frame, it will be a good start for you to look at investing in balanced funds. Balanced funds have exposure to both equity and debt, that varies over time depending on the market cycles. You can select from any of the four schemes listed. These are all rated 5-star by Value Research and have a proven track record and history. These funds suit your need.
