In an encouraging move, the BSE Sensex today closed with a jump of 3.38 per cent, a rally caused by the optimism generated by encourgaing economic data in the sub-continent.
After four straight falls, the index closed at 13, 853 points, up by 453.38 points.
The BSE Midcap too showed positive signs as it closed up by 4.27 per cent and closed at 4,780 points, while the BSE Smallcap also closed at a positive 5,283 points, up by 4.45 per cent. Meanwhile, the BSE-500 also registered positive gains and closed at 5,236 points, up by 3.75 per cent.
Aban Offshore, Infra DevFin, Ackruti, Suzlon Energy and DLF Limited remained the top gainers today. While Aban Offshore remained at the top of the table, registering a clear jump of 21.39 per cent, Infra DevFin followed it close behind up by 14.58 per cent.
Ackruti, Suzlon Energy and DLF Limited also registered positive gains of 12.36 per cent, 11.84 per cent and 11.44 per cent respectively. Meanwhile KSK Energy remained at the top of the biggest losers table as it closed down by 11.55 per cent.
The other top four losers in the category were Zee Enter, Jain IRRI SY, Sintex Indus and Tata Chemicals Limited which were down by 4.32 per cent, 1.75 per cent, 1.72 per cent and 1.20 per cent respectively.
Last week, the market fell 9.4 per cent, which was its biggest fall in eight months after the government's Budget disappointed investors who were expecting bold economic and financial reforms.
