About Nippon India Medium Duration Fund - Direct Plan
Nippon India Medium Duration Fund - Direct Plan is a debt mutual fund scheme of Nippon India Mutual Fund. Launched on June 26, 2014, it is currently managed by Sushil Budhia. The fund has an expense ratio of 0.50% with an overall AUM (Assets Under Management) of ₹145 Cr.
Nippon India Strategic Debt Fund - Direct Plan is mandated to invest in bonds such that the duration of the portfolio is between three to four years. The fund allows minimum lumpsum investment of ₹1,000 and minimum SIP of ₹100.
Investment Strategy
The scheme seeks to generate income through investments in a range of debt and money market instruments of various maturities with a view to maximizing income while maintaining the optimum balance of yield, safety and liquidity.
Suitability
Medium Duration funds are avoidable for most investors because:
- They are meant for debt allocation in a portfolio. This investing need is better served by Short Duration funds
- There are too many types of debt funds with little differentiation, making choice difficult for investors. Medium Duration funds are one of them
Capital Gains Taxation
- If investment is made on or after 1 April 2023: Entire amount of gain is added to the investors' income and taxed according to the applicable slab rate.
- If investment is made before 1 April 2023:
- Sold within 2 years from the date of investment: Gains are added to the investors' income and taxed according to the applicable slab rate.
- Sold after 2 years from the date of investment: Gains are taxed at the rate of 12.5%.
- No tax is to be paid as long as you continue to hold the units.
