HDFC, UTI Bag Most Stars

As per the revised list of the Value Research top-rated funds released for June 2006, HDFC Mutual and UTI Mutual have maximum number of five star funds to their credit.

Canbank and Reliance follow closely, with each one of them boasting of four 5-star funds. Birla Mutual owns maximum 4-star funds (10), with UTI Mutual close behind with nine 4-star funds.

The universe of rated funds grew by three funds this month, taking the count of rated funds to 395. The three additions were: Kotak Flexi Debt, Sundaram Floating Rate ST Regular and Sundaram Floating Rate LT Regular.

This month there were 54 rating upgrades, 48 downgrades, while 290 funds maintained a status quo. Noticeable upgrades included ING Vysya Gilt (+3), Escorts Gilt (+2) and Sundaram Gilt (+2). Eight funds slipped down the rating ladder by more than a star: Prudential ICICI Gilt Investment PF, Reliance Gilt Long-term PF, Birla Gilt Plus Regular, Libra Bond, DWS Premier Bond Regular, Reliance Gilt Short-term, Kotak Gilt Investment PF & Trust and ING Vysya MIP Plan B. Each of them lost 2 stars, except for Libra Bond, which slipped down by three stars.
