Debt funds witnessed a lot of action in terms of changes in the star ratings. In the five-star fund category, five funds gained entry, while six were shown the door. Among the entrants were Canliquid Retail, JM Balanced, Prudential ICICI Short Term, UTI Gilt Advantage Long Term, and UTI Nifty Index. The funds losing their five star tag included Birla Taxplan '98, Kotak Balance, Libra Gilt, Sahara Short Term, Templeton India CAP-Gift and Templeton India TMA.

Canliquid Retail regained its coveted rating after falling to the four star category for the past four months. The fund has never been rated below four star. UTI Gilt Advantage Long Term also secured its five star rating back in March after lying in the four star category for the past two months. The fund has been rated five-star 13 times out of the 20 months of its rating life. Prudential ICICI Short Term Fund, however, entered the elite club for the first time.

Kotak Balance was able to hold on to its five star rating for just one month, before falling back to the four star category. After enjoying the top rating for five consecutive months, Libra Gilt managed four stars this time. However, a bigger surprise was for Sahara Short Term Fund, which fell out of the top category for the first time. The fund is currently rated four star.
