Dhirendra Kumar discusses the right approach to investing in equity funds

Can you suggest a fund for the lump-sum investment of Rs 1.5 lakh with a time horizon for about 15 to 25 years?
- Ganesh Kumar

A time period of 15-25 years is good. However, never make any lump-sum investment in equity funds. So, even for Rs 1.5 lakh, I suggest spreading the investment over the next 15 months. The market is currently witnessing a traumatic phase. Corporate earnings are going to be disappointing and we shall witness many ups and downs in the market.

I suggest that you choose not more than two multi-cap funds and start investing this amount through SIPs in the same over the next 15-24 months. You can also go for a tax-saving fund if that can help you save on taxes.

You can also start some additional SIPs, apart from the present ones, for investing this corpus of Rs 1.5 lakh. Investing through SIPs helps you in averaging your purchase cost.
