How much time should one wait before discontinuing an SIP if the fund is not performing well?

Well it depends, but do give it at least one to two and a half years. There are two things to be looked at here. One, if the poor performance of the fund is due to the markets not doing well then there is no need to worry because such a fall in market is a great time to invest. On the other hand, if particularly your fund is not performing well vis-a-vis other funds then it is a different story. In such a case, you need to take a call in a defined time frame.
