Arrears invested in NPS

You can claim a total deduction of Rs 2 lakh under Section 80C and 80CCD

I am a central government employee. I am aware that government has allowed ₹50,000 additional deduction under Section 80CCD(1B) for this financial year over and above ₹1 lakh under Section 80CCD 1A. This year my own NPS contribution is more than ₹3 lakh due to arrears received for earlier years. My query is that to avail this extra benefit should I need to deposit ₹50,000 of my own or it can be adjusted against my own NPS contribution?

You can claim a total deduction of ₹2 lakh under Section 80C and 80CCD. Since you have made ₹3 lakh contributions to NPS this financial year, you can claim the entire deduction of ₹2 lakh without making any additional investment.
