How to start investing?

If you do not need the help of an advisor, you can consider investing in direct plans of mutual funds

I have recently joined a company. I want to invest in some Equity Linked Savings Schemes (ELSSs). I have no idea how to start investing, whom to approach, do i need to contact a broker or an agent, should I be investing online, etc. How do I kick-start the whole process? Please guide.

First things... is a great place for you to start.

Once you are through with the topics, you can start your investment programme. You should ask yourself whether you need the help of an AMFI-certified advisor to take care of your investment or you can do it your own. If you want the help of an agent, you can invest in regular plans of mutual fund schemes with his help. You can locate an agent near you.

If you don't want the help of an investor, you can invest directly with an AMC in the direct plan of schemes and save on the commission. These plans have lower expense ratio and it will result in superior returns over a long period. All About Going Direct.

Here is a list of best ELSS.
