Which critical illness plan should I buy?

If you have a family history of any chronic illness, you should pick a plan that covers the illness

I am a 43-year-old software professional in a multinational company. I have three dependents: my wife, two daughters (12 and 6 years) and my mother. I already have a group insurance policy from my company and a personal health insurance cover (Royal Sundaram Health Shield policy) that covers me, my wife and our elder daughter. Additionally, I want to buy a Critical Care Policy to cover some critical illness. I am bit confused which one to choose. Can you help me?

A critical illness policy will pay a fixed sum after a certain period (mostly 30 days) once you are diagnosed with an illness covered under the policy. You can consider Apollo Munich Optima Vital and HDFC ERGO Critical Illness Platinum. Apollo Munich covers 37 critical illnesses and HDFC ERGO Critical Illness Platinum covers 15 critical illnesses. If you have a family history of any chronic illness, you should pick a plan that covers the illness.

You must go through the policy details and list of exclusions thoroughly. Also, continue with the basic health insurance policy.
