A new health insurance plan is unlikely to cover your wife's existing disease from day one. Talk to your current insurer and try to enhance your health cover

I am 57 and my wife is 52 years. I have been renewing my Mediclaim policy of ₹2 lakh with family floater from National Insurance Company for the last four years. My wife has suffered from colon cancer in 2007. She is alright now and undergoes check-ups at regular intervals. I want to buy a health insurance cover of at least ₹5-7 lakh (with family floater) for the rest of our life. Can you recommend a policy that may also cover the existing ailment from the beginning?

A new health insurance policy is unlikely to cover your wife's cancer from day one. In fact, critical illness policies that cover chronic illnesses never cover pre-existing conditions. The best option for you would be to increase your existing cover. Talk to your current insurer and ask them what can they offer you.
