Before you invest in the same funds that you had invested in earlier, take a look at the current ranking of the funds

I had invested in some ELSS funds (HDFC, DWS and Birla) six years ago. I did not invest any more after that. I am now retired and want to invest in the same ELSS funds. Can I reinvest some amounts again in those funds and get tax benefits in 2015-16?

We believe you want to make fresh investment in ELSS this year. Among your previous fund choices, Birla Sun Life Tax Plan continues to be a four-star fund with an impressive performance. In fact, we have recommended the fund recently. You can avoid HDFC Tax Saver and DWS Tax Saving Fund which are two-star funds. You can also look at the funds we have recently recommended: Axis Long Term Equity Fund, BNP Paribas Long Term Equity Fund, Franklin India Tax Shield, ICICI Prudential Tax Plan, among others.
