I am an NRI (49 years old) and intend to settle in India. Please advise what would be the best health insurance scheme that would take care of myself and my wife (43 years)? We want less hurdles in claim settlement and more international like working with cashless payment at most of the major hospitals across the country.

Getting insured is the priority task which should be done even before planning to invest for goals. We have selected a suitable health insurance policy based on the factors such as - life long renewal, less exclusions and wide coverage without sub-limits on room rent and other insurance benefits. ICICI Lombard Complete Health Insurance - iHealth Plan, Apollo Munich Easy Health are good policies. These are private insurance policies. Apart from these policies if you are willing to go for public insurers, United India Health - Family medicare Policy and Oriental Insurance Happy Family Floater Policy are decent ones except for that these policies apply sub-limits on certain expenses and treatments. Moreover, these plans can be renewed only upto 80 years of age. You need to make your choice depending on your needs.
All these plans offer cashless claim settlement. While all major hospitals in big cities fall under network of insurers, it becomes a task for tier-II and tier-III citiy residents to check if the hospitals of their choice are covered or not. You may go through network hospitals list available on their websites to find out the same.
Premiums at your age for a healthy couple on a ₹5 lakh cover are as below. Premiums are exclusive of taxes and cess.
|Health Plans||Annual Premiums (₹)|
|ICICI Lombard Complete Health Insurance - iHealth||16871|
|Apollo Munich Easy Health||17218|
|United India Health - Family medicare Policy||12835|
|Oriental Insurance Happy Family Floater||10476|
For an easy claim settlement, make sure you fill the proposal form correctly and disclose all details to the best of your knowledge. Do not hide anything from your insurer if you want a hassle free claim settlement at the time of need. Go through the policy brochure thoroughly before making a final purchase to understand its coverage and exclusions better.
