In February, SEBI raised the minimum net worth threshold of AMCs from the ₹10 crore to ₹50 crore. The reason for this five fold increase according to SEBI is to have only serious players in asset management business. The result of this move has thrown the fate of 15 AMCs in a tizzy. The net worth of AMCs as on March 31, 2013 indicates that these AMCs fall short of the new limit. A second set of AMCs may find the going tough for them. Religare Invesco has been the first to comply. The company increase its capital from ₹36.4 crore to ₹57 crore by way right issue on May 26, 2014. Many AMCs will raise capital over time as regulator has allowed three year time to comply with revised capital requirement.
