Voluntary Delisting

2012 witnessed the largest voluntary delisting, market capitalisation wise, triggered by SEBI’s public holding ruling…

In the past 6 years, 61 companies have voluntarily delisted themselves from the bourses, out of which 29 had foreign promoters. In 2012, the combined market capitalisation of companies that delisted themselves was more than Rs 30,000 crore. One of the reasons being attributed to this is the ruling by Sebi in 2010 wherein it set a 2013 deadline for private companies to have a minimum 25 per cent public holding (for PSUs it was 10 per cent). This has triggered an exodus of companies who do not wish to comply to these norms.
