In 2017, SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) mandated fund houses to launch just one fund per category. This rule, though, did not apply to sectoral and thematic funds. As a result, more than 200 such funds have mushroomed since then, with assets topping Rs 5 lakh crore. What's more, a whopping Rs 70,000 crore has been pumped into them within just the first six months of 2024!
