Cool Strategy for Hot Stocks

Companies that are trading at their historical highs and what to do if you own them

In recent times we have focused on which bargain stocks to pick and solid companies to invest during tough times. In this issue of Wealth Insight, we look at stocks that are trading at high valuations, with some of them being the priciest stocks that can be found in the Indian stock markets. The selection has been based on valuations, but it is not merely a list of stocks with a high PE or a high PEG.

The idea is not to list out sticks that are expensive or arrive at a buy decision. This list is particularly useful to investors who own them and are looking for the necessary guidance on holding on to these stocks or exiting them. The list of 14 stocks in this cover story can be categorised into three groups--those that are trading at above their historical levels, those that have seen their earnings crash while valuations hold up and those that trade at higher valuations, but are on their way to profitability from either losses or reeling from acquisition and related consolidation woes.
