Trim your Portfolio

It is inconvenient to hold & manage too many funds. Trim down your portfolio to 3-4 funds…

I am 42 years old. I invest Rs 1,000 via monthly SIPs in HDFC Top 200, HDFC Equity, HDFC Midcap Opportunities, ICICI Pru Dynamic, Franklin India Bluechip and Reliance Gold. I also invest Rs 2,000 every month in IDFC Premier Equity. I have been investing for 1 year. These are my long-term investments. Please give me your opinion and suggestions.

You have selected good funds, but you don’t need so many of them. Around 40 per cent of your investments in the three HDFC funds would be an overlap. Apart from that, investing in so many funds can be inconvenient when it comes to monitoring them as well as computing tax applicable on them. We would suggest that you trim down your investments to only 3 to 4 diversified funds. From the three HDFC funds you have, hold onto only HDFC Equity.
