Focus on Diversification

While infrastructure funds are not bad vehicles, they don’t make sense for individual investors. Find out why…

I’ve been investing Rs 3,000 per month in ICICI Prudential Infrastructure fund and Rs 2,000 a month in Sundaram Capex Opp, since August 2007. My investment horizon is of about 6-8 years. Should I hold onto theses funds or invest in some other funds?

This is not a great way to build a portfolio. The goal of an individual investor while he's investing via SIPs and accumulating his savings into equity should be to diversify as much as possible, and this is a compromise on that. We don’t think infrastructure funds or this capex fund are bad investments, they are good in their own way. But from an investor’s standpoint, they're a bad idea because investors should be focusing on diversification. So you should switch your investments to more diverse vehicles.
