Accumulating to Buy Gold

Investments in gold funds would make sense if you’re trying to accumulate to buy gold at a later date…

I am planning to invest Rs 13,000-15,000 every month. At present I am investing Rs 3,000 in SBI Gold Fund. I want to invest the rest in HDFC Top 200, ICICI Prudential Focused Bluechip Equity and IDFC Premier Equity fund. I am 31 and plan to stay invested in these funds for over 15 years. Is my fund selection good to build Rs 1 crore in 15-20 years?

We are not sure why you are investing Rs 3,000 every month in gold. If you are accumulating that investment to buy gold at a later date (like a daughter’s wedding), then it would make sense. Otherwise, we suggest you replace SBI Gold with a hybrid fund that invests in debt and gold, if it is pure diversification you are after.
