Refrain from Timing Markets

To get the best out of equity, invest in a good fund via SIPs for the long-term. But don’t time the markets…

Is this the right time to invest in Quantum Long Term Equity fund? The other question is - I had purchased shares of the Global Trust Bank during its IPO. The company is not allowed to trade anymore and has been taken over by Oriental Bank of Commerce. What will happen once GTB is allowed to trade again?

To answer your first question, the decision behind an investment in mutual funds should not be dependent on the state of the markets. If you're going to be investing for the long-term, it is always a good time to invest in equity. You shouldn’t try to time the markets by investing in a lump sum amount. To get the best out of your equity investments, invest regularly through SIPs. Quantum Long Term Equity is an excellent fund and you can invest in it for the long-term.

Coming to your second question, the money invested in the shares of Global Trust Bank is worthless. The company has been delisted and its remaining assets were later acquired by the Oriental Bank of Commerce. Hence, as far as the shares of GTB go, they are a write-off for all investors.
