Building a Portfolio

You shouldn’t invest a big amount in fewer funds, even if they have been doing well. Here’s what you should do

I am planning to invest Rs 30,000 in ICICI Prudential Focused Bluechip Equity and Quantum Long Term Equity to build a Rs 1 crore corpus for my son 8 years from now. Please comment if my fund selection is in line with my goal.

Is it Rs 30,000 in each fund or Rs 30,000 in totality? We have looked at both. The funds that you have selected are good but do not invest such high amounts in just two funds. Here is a broad guideline. The core of your portfolio (80%) should be made of ‘Equity: Large Cap’ and ‘Equity: Large & Mid Cap’ funds. The balance can be mid-cap, multi-cap, sector and thematic funds.
