I want to invest Rs 30,000 from March onwards. I want to know what would be a good bifurcation. Suppose I invest in mutual funds, will there be any tax on my gains when I redeem?

The key to any investment decision is the timeframe of the investment. If you are going to invest for 7-10 years, you should consider building a portfolio that comprises 80 per cent equity and the remaining in fixed income. This should be rebalanced every year. You should consult an investment advisor to seek an opinion in the selection of funds. Investments in equity funds are tax-free if held for over one year.
