Correcting Mistakes

A wrongly spelled name in your insurance policy should be corrected at the earliest to avoid future hassles

I obtained my insurance policy last month from LIC, where my name is spelt wrongly with an extra alphabet attached; what is the implications if this is not corrected? How can I get it corrected?
-Rajesh Agarwal

Although it is just an alphabet that is added, it is not how your name is spelt or is recorded with your bank or identity proof. The wrongly spelt name will be printed in all communications with the insurer which can be an issue at the time of a claim or maturity of the policy. For instance, your bank may not clear a cheque with your name wrongly spelt. You should get the anomaly corrected with your insurers at the earliest with an application for the same along with a valid photo identity and valid document that have your name spelt correctly.
