Hold or Sell?

Lump sum investment needs monitoring to exit at the right time

I made investments in Fidelity Equity in January 2008. The returns on these funds have not been impressive. Should I continue holding in these two funds?

Your fund selection is good. Fidelity Equity is a 5 star rated fund by us and falls within the large- and mid-cap space and should form the core component of your portfolio. The performance of this fund has been good and you can consider continuing investing in this fund. But, the lesson that you need to learn from this investment is that mutual fund investing is best when done systematically and regularly with discipline. This takes care of the ups and downs in market cycles and evens out performance in the long run. It also allows you to track your fund’s performance regularly and make any necessary changes.
