Investing Dilemma

Tax savings mutual funds have a good case for investments until DTC

I have been investing in ELSS since 2006, with DTC coming into effect from 2012, should I invest in these now? I don’t have any other equity investments.-Rajesh Garg

If you have no other investments with equity exposure, your investments in ELSS are the best way to have equity exposure. These investments qualify for tax deduction and also offer the diversity of mutual fund investing with equity exposure. In the DTC regime, ELSS does not fall within the list of investments that qualify for tax deductions. You can continue to invest in these funds even in 2011-12 to get the necessary tax breaks.
