Tough choice

Cut the emotion when exiting funds and follow the performance indicators

Should I exit Magnum Taxgain? I had invested Rs 8,000 in this fund 3 years ago and have completed the lock-in period. I would like to channelize this money into Fidelity Tax Advantage.

Looking at the two funds that you have mentioned, you won't find a stark difference in the calendar year returns over the past three years. Having said that Fidelity Tax Advantage did manage the downturn of 2008 better. However, if you look at the latest performance, the latter has done exceptionally well and left Magnum Taxgain far behind. Since you specifically want to opt for a tax saving fund, then go ahead with your choice but do so via a systematic investment plan (SIP).
