Is High Mid-cap Exposure Good?

Allocation based on market-cap is good as long as it fits into your portfolio

I would like to invest in HDFC Top 200 and IDFC Premier Equity Plan A via SIP for Rs 2,500 each. But the mid- and small-cap allocation of this portfolio is more than 50 per cent. Please advice if this is acceptable - Vineeth Kumar

Your observation is correct. HDFC Top 200 is a large- and mid-cap fund and IDFC Premier is a mid- and small-cap fund. The combined effect does have a mid-cap bias. There is nothing wrong investing in the combination of these two funds as long as you are aware that these are risky compared to large-cap funds and a regular review in their performance will help you
