SIPs work well for the long run when one gains from the power of compounding

I am 30 and I wish to invest for the long term through SIPs. Currently, I can invest Rs 2,500 a month which I have distributed as follows: Rs, 1,000 in HDFC Top 200; Rs 1,000 in Reliance Growth and Rs 500 in any gold ETF. Is my decision correct? Are there any specific changes you would recommend? Which gold ETF should I go in for?

For a 30-year old, you are entering a bit late in the day into equities. Your decision to invest through SIPs is a good move. We believe that investments need to be done with a goal in mind. This way one can select funds to invest in to achieve that goal. Your selection of funds comprises of HDFC Top 200 a large and mid-cap focused scheme with a 5 start rating by us and Reliance growth, a mid- and small-cap fund carries a 4 star rating. Both these funds are not conservative selections, which you must be aware of. By selecting to invest in gold, you are hedging your investments, which is a good move. However, you cannot do an SIP with Gold ETF. As for performance of gold ETFs; they are uniform across the available none options.
