MF AAUM Rises to Rs 6.69 lakh Crore

The money invested in the mutual fund industry jumped to new highs

The mutual fund assets have continued their inexorable rise this month too. The total average assets under management (AAUM) for the month went up by 4.92 per cent to reach Rs 6.69 lakh crore.

Among the top 10 fund houses, the biggest gains were recorded by LIC MF whose assets went up by 12.31 per cent to Rs 30,780 crore. However, the industry’s number one fund house, Reliance Mutual Fund, further strengthened its position with its assets growing from Rs 1.02 lakh crore to Rs 1.08 lakh crore -- a growth of 5.45 per cent. Helped by the successful conclusion of its infrastructure new fund offer (NFO), which grabbed more than Rs 2,300 crore, it was also the biggest gainer for the month.

The assets of Edelweiss MF, which still remains the smallest fund house in the industry, threw a big surprise by registering a 121 per cent growth, with its AUM jumping up to Rs 45 crore in June, albeit from a small base of Rs 20 crore. The fund house had recently come up with two new equity funds that helped it garner additional assets.

However, the gains were not all uniformly spread across the industry. Nine fund house’s assets saw a reduction in their AUM, with the fall in assets for Canara Robeco MF being the most significant at Rs 427 crore or 5.31 per cent.

The top 10 fund houses, accounting for more than 42 per cent of the total assets of the industry, saw one new entrant, IDFC MF which replaced Tata MF.

Coming to fund categories, despite flat market performance in the month of June, the assets in equity funds, which went up drastically in May, gained as much as 15.22 per cent this month as well.

A look at the figure reveals that the assets under diversified equity funds have grown 16.24 per cent in June while the returns that they generated were hardly noteworthy. Except for some gains registered by a few sectors in June, the market remained at almost the same levels with the Sensex falling by 0.90 per cent.
