From May 1, most equity schemes of Templeton Mutual Fund will have among the highest entry loads in India. The AMC has decided to increase this charge from 2 per cent to 2.25 per cent. The affected funds are Franklin India Bluechip, Franklin India Prima, Franklin India Prima Plus, Franklin Infotech, Franklin India FMCG, Franklin India Pharma, Franklin India Growth, Templeton India Growth and Franklin India Opportunities.
The equity funds unaffected by this hike are Franklin India Taxshield and the three index funds namely Franklin India Index NSE Nifty, Franklin India Index BSE Sensex and Franklin India Index Tax.
Earlier, Tata Mutual Fund had the highest loads in the Indian funds industry. For instance, Tata Equity Opportunities and Tata Tata Life Science & Tech charge entry load of 2.25 per cent for investments less than Rs 50 lakh. And in Tata Pure Equity and Tata Select Equity, a 2.25 per cent entry load is charged for investments below Rs 1 crore.
In March 2003, Prudential ICICI had also hiked up its entry loads, raising this charge in all its equity schemes from 1.75 per cent to 2.25 per cent for investments less than Rs 10 lakh. After seven months, it rolled back the hike partially, bringing down the load to 2 per cent. The category average entry load for diversified equity funds is 1.95 per cent. Nearly 80 per cent of all diversified funds charge an entry load of 2 per cent.
