Why is it suggested to have an additional health insurance policy besides the one provided by the employer?
- Sriram Ramanathan
There are two reasons, primarily if your employer-provided coverage is not adequate. If your employer is providing something like Rs 3 lakh and you think the reasonable amount should be Rs 5 lakh. The other reason generally is if it's not comprehensive enough. If you have your parents and you want coverage for them and your employer is not providing the same.
Then there is a third benefit that happens on account of buying your health insurance yourself. Your insurance company starts building your experience as a policy buyer in terms of what kind of customer you are. Thus, you start building your track record with the insurance company in terms of a policy owner.
