How to withdraw from mutual funds

Exit matters as much, if not more, than entry. In the next Investors' Hangout, we tell you how to do it best

How to withdraw from mutual funds

The wild fluctuations of markets mean little as long as you exit the right way. The answer isn't as simple as clicking on a 'redeem' button online or handing a form to your distributor.

The money you get back from your funds is affected by exit loads and taxes. Funds also periodically declare dividends, giving you back some money. Redemption forms typically give you a host of confusing options such as 'xx units', 'xx amount' or 'all units'.

Your exit will also differ depending on how much money you need and when you need it. For instance, those who need regular income will withdraw differently from those saving for a large one-time payment.

So what is the best way to exit a fund? We tell you in the upcoming Investors' Hangout.
