I am trying to follow your advise of keeping investment and insurance as two separate pillars and not mixing them. I have become an NRI seven to eight years ago. Insurance companies say that they do not have any insurance cover (alone) for NRIs. They are asking me to buy an insurance cover of ₹1 crore with an additional accident cover of ₹50 lakh. Could you please suggest any alternatives? Or should I go with insurance plus investment option (like ICICI Prulife Elite Wealth).

You should stick to your decision of keeping insurance and investment needs separate. You can buy online term life insurance covers from companies like Aegon Religare, Max and HDFC. You should be in India while buying these policies to undergo medical check ups if required. Some insurers may also allow you to buy online while staying overseas and undergo medical tests overseas and send reports to the insurer in India. You need to talk to insurance companies for more information on this.
