Balanced funds for conservative investors

Balanced funds are ideal for new investors as their debt part offers a cushion in times of volatility

I am 27, and I would like to invest in a balance fund. Please tell me how do I invest online? I have a Jeevan Saral policy from LIC. I don't want to continue with it.
Please suggest me the best term plan for ₹50 to 60 lakh cover and a health insurance cover for ₹3 to 5 lakh. I am interested in SIP and I am investing ₹2,000 in ICICI Value Discovery for the last six months and ₹1,500 in HDFC Top 200 from last one month. Please recommend the best term insurance, balance fund and health insurance for me.

Balanced funds are ideal for conservative investors who are new to the stock market. These funds invest in a combination of equity and debt and the debt part offers a cushion in times of volatility.

For online purchase, visit the mutual fund website and go to 'Invest online' option. The website will proceed step by step. Simply follow the steps to make your investments online. You need net banking to make online investments.

LIC Jeevan Saral is an endowment policy which is silent on expenses, just like other plans in the category. The policy will pay the sum assured plus loyalty bonus on maturity. Loyalty additions may be paid from 10th policy year onwards at the discretion of the insurer. Surrender the policy as it does not insure you for an adequate sum.

Term Plan is the cheapest and best form of life insurance. You can choose Aviva i-Life or Max Life Online Term Plan. These policies charge nominal premiums and have settled more than 99% of claims on an average in last three years. The premium would be: ₹4,320 for Aviva i-Life and ₹4,450 for Max Life Online Term Plan. Premiums are for a healthy non-smoker male of your age, policy term is 30 years, and the cover is for ₹50 lakh.

As for your health insurance needs, pick Apollo Munich Easy Health or ICICI Lombard iHealth plan.

Go for ₹3 lakh cover and increase the cover when your family size increases. Both plans allow lifetime renewal. Do not opt for sub-limit even if insurer offers lower premium. We have selected basic policies for you. If you have a family history of any critical illness, you should add critical illness cover as well. The premiums for the covers are: Apollo Munich Easy Health -Standard Plan (₹4,578) and ICICI Lombard iHealth Plan (₹4,845).
