Retiring in 8 years. Go direct now?
Ashutosh Gupta weighs whether a switch to direct is worth it this close to retirement.
I'm going to retire after eight years. At that time, I may need to switch from equity funds to debt funds. In that case, does it make sense to switch to a direct plan now? - Bhushan Dhaneshwar
Ashutosh Gupta: With equity, the payoffs work in your favour even if you hold for only the next three years. So go ahead and switch to direct. You are close to retirement. Moving to direct should help you accumulate a little more before you finally shift to debt. And when you do move to debt at retirement, direct plans should again be your choice.
