Introduction
As India gears up for the much-anticipated Budget Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. Addressing the media before the session commenced, he expressed his hopes that the Budget would usher in renewed confidence, energy, and economic growth, with a special emphasis on benefiting the poor and middle class.
PM Modi's invocation of Goddess Lakshmi
Before entering Parliament, PM Modi bowed before Maa Lakshmi and recited a Sanskrit prayer dedicated to her:
"Siddhi Buddhi Prade Devi, Bhukti Mukti Pra'dayini
Mantra Murte Sada Devi, Maha Lakshmi Namo'stute."
This verse translates to:
"Oh Goddess who bestows intelligence and success, bestower of worldly enjoyment and liberation as well, with the mantra always as thy form, Maha Lakshmi, we bow to thee."
He emphasised that he prays for Maa Lakshmi's blessings upon the poor and middle class of the nation, highlighting their crucial role in India's economic progress.
Vision for Viksit Bharat
PM Modi reiterated his confidence in India's ability to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, marking 100 years of independence. He stated that the Budget Session would catalyse economic growth and transformation.
"This is the first complete budget of my third term. I can confidently say that in 2047 when India completes 100 years of independence, we will fulfil our aim of Viksit Bharat," he asserted.
Key themes of economic growth
PM Modi outlined three key pillars of economic progress—Innovation, Inclusion, and Investment—which will shape India's development roadmap. He emphasised that:
- Innovation will drive economic activity.
- Inclusion will ensure that all sections of society benefit from economic growth.
- Investment will play a crucial role in infrastructure and economic expansion.
Additionally, he highlighted the government's commitment to Reform, Perform, and Transform, a mantra that aims to bring about structural changes while ensuring efficient governance.
Empowering youth and future generations
PM Modi underscored the importance of India's youth in shaping the nation's future. He stated that individuals aged 25-26 years old will be the key beneficiaries of Viksit Bharat and witness its transformation by the time they turn 45-46. He urged young Members of Parliament (MPs) to actively contribute to discussions and policymaking, calling it a "golden opportunity" for them.
A historic budget session
The Prime Minister emphasised that the Budget Session would involve discussions on several historic bills and key policy reforms. He expressed optimism that these discussions would drive India's economic progress and enhance the nation's global standing.
"In this Budget Session, all MPs will contribute to strengthening Viksit Bharat. I hope that we will stand up to the hopes and expectations of the people," he stated.
Conclusion
PM Modi's invocation of Goddess Lakshmi and his address before the Budget Session reflects a blend of economic vision and cultural symbolism. The government aims to pave the way for a prosperous and developed India by 2047 by empowering the poor and middle class, fostering innovation, and accelerating investments.
