Gold after Diversification

Invest in gold only after you have a diversified portfolio & you may need physical gold in the future…

I have investments in Reliance Equity Opportunities, Fidelity Equity, Fidelity India Special Situations, SBI Gold, Templeton India Equity Income and UTI Opportunities fund. Please tell me if I should hold these investments or redeem any of them? I had purchased all the funds in the NFO except UTI Opportunities fund and I can hold them for another two years.

You have a well diversified portfolio of six funds that have a 94.35 per cent equity exposure with a large-cap growth orientation. Excluding the gold fund, the remaining funds are all highly rated with a superior risk adjusted return and you can stay invested in these funds. The gold fund invests in gold and hence its performance should be in line with the performance of gold. We believe one should invest in gold only if one has a well diversified portfolio, which you have, and may have the need for gold in the future. For instance, you may need gold for a wedding in the family or use the same to make jewellery, in which case investing in gold is useful. Continue investing and track the performance of the funds in which you invest at least once a year.
