Which is the other pension fund apart from the UTI Retirement Benefit Pension Plan? How does one plan for retirement via mutual funds?
-Ashok Kumar
The other plan is the Templeton India Pension Plan. Both of these pension plans are very conservative vehicles, investing up to 40 per cent into equity and the remaining in fixed income. However, they don’t make a comprehensive retirement vehicle. The NPS is more comprehensive because it gives you tax benefits, accumulation, no income opportunity till you retire and low cost fund management.
To invest for retirement via mutual funds, you can choose from the wide array of funds available. But you would be expected to have the discipline to invest regularly after choosing the right fund. Of course, on these funds you will not get the tax break, which you get on the NPS.
