Fund Buying Options

Is it advisable to purchase a mutual fund directly through the fund company or through a demat account? What funds would you suggest for a new investor with an investment horizon of 3 years?

It doesn’t matter from where you buy a mutual fund. You can invest through the fund company or through a fund distributor or through a bank, and it would make no difference because the entry load on funds has been abolished. The mode of purchase is entirely a matter for your convenience and comfort.

If you're a first-time investor, invest via SIPs in a balanced fund. This will allow you to understand the mechanics of fund investing at low risks.
