Go for Growth

For an investment horizon of 10 years, invest systematically in the Value Research Growth Portfolio

I am likely to change my job soon and will get Rs 6 lakh from gratuity and leave encashment. I still have 10 years to go for my retirement at 58 and wish to invest this sum. Please advice where I can invest this sum; I don’t need any income from this till my retirement.

Since your investment horizon is 10 years, we feel you should invest systematically in the Value Research Growth portfolio made of five funds. Collectively, this portfolio current has a 70 per cent equity allocation, with Infosys, Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank being the top three stock allocations and Financial, Energy and Technology, making up for the top three sectors accounting for 46 per cent of the portfolio. You can park the lump sum that you receive in a liquid fund and initiate systematic transfer plans to these five funds in equal proportion. Make sure to assess the progress made by these investments at least once a year to make any necessary changes to fund selection if necessary.
