About Axis Gilt Fund - Direct Plan
Axis Gilt Fund - Direct Plan is a debt mutual fund scheme of Axis Mutual Fund. Launched on January 01, 2013, it is currently managed by Devang Shah and Sachin Jain. The fund has an expense ratio of 0.37% with an overall AUM (Assets Under Management) of ₹424 Cr.
Axis Gilt Fund - Direct Plan is mandated to invest at least 80 per cent of its assets in bonds issued by the government of India. The fund allows minimum lumpsum investment of ₹100 and minimum SIP of ₹1,000.
Investment Strategy
The Scheme will aim to generate credit risk-free returns through investments in sovereign securities issued by the Central Government and/or State Government.
Suitability
Gilt funds are suitable for investors:
- Looking to invest in government securities, which carry no credit risk
- Who understand these funds can swing sharply as interest rates move
- Who can withstand higher volatility and risk in their debt portfolio
Note:
- Most investors can skip these funds and stick to core debt funds instead
- Unlike FD, there is no guarantee of returns
- Not suitable for long term wealth creation
Capital Gains Taxation
- If investment is made on or after 1 April 2023: Entire amount of gain is added to the investors' income and taxed according to the applicable slab rate.
- If investment is made before 1 April 2023:
- Sold within 2 years from the date of investment: Gains are added to the investors' income and taxed according to the applicable slab rate.
- Sold after 2 years from the date of investment: Gains are taxed at the rate of 12.5%.
- No tax is to be paid as long as you continue to hold the units.
